NXT In Your House Quick Review

We’re starting off with the six man tag and LDP are waaaaaay over in the CWC. It’s a hot opener that actually only really slowed down when D’Angelo and Escobar went one-on-one. The finish was actually really well done and complex and set up perfectly by the ref before the match started. It was quite a six man tag match and again, the crowd was hot for it.

Women’s Tag Titles on the line next as the crowd is way into the raver gimmicks of Chase and Carter. Some really unique tag moves on display from Chase and Carter, as this is actually my first seeing this team in action. I do really like Toxic Attraction’s version of Total Elimination. Another really well put together finish with a bunch of moving parts. If I haven’t commented on it before, Jacy Jayne’s selling is absolutely great. The pin might have actually been a little botched, as Chase’s shoulder might have been off the mat and she had to get herself back into a pinning position.

North American title match up next with pretty much the only remnant of the black and gold brand. It started out as the most technical match of the night, and then slowed down into a rhythm before Hayes hit a One Final Beat on the apron. Grimes took a good amount of heat before turning the tables, while Hayes took everything the champ could throw at him. Trick Williams is the X-factor and we have a new North American champion.

Women’s title match next and the crowd that has been hot from the start is ice cold for Wendy Choo’s entrance. We even have a “If Wendy wins we riot”, which cute but. We get a really well done countout spot with Rose delivering a spinebuster in the entrance way. Choo tries the pull down the strap spot but couldn’t get out of her jump suit. Thankfully she managed it in time. I’m glad this wasn’t the end of the career resurgence of Mandy Rose, whose been one of the best parts of NXT for months. The match worked but I just don’t think these two had great chemistry in there.

The Tag Titles are on the line in the penultimate match of the night. Getting thrown out of the Diamond Mine is an odd stipulation for the Creeds to work with, who are the faces in this one. Well played to Brutus for getting a standing stretch muffler on Wilson who is a tall dude. That couldn’t have been easy. Pretty Deadly takes a lot of heat until they get a double team spinebuster on the steps to Julius, a pretty rough looking bump. A well built hot tag that leads to a pretty shooting star press from Julius and new tag team champs. Just a well built match all around.

And on to the main event, the NXT Championship on the line. But we’ve got to get our second hype video for Rhodes and Rollins for tomorrow night and this is starting to reek of desperation guys. Oh, and a second package for the Raw Women’s title. Is it padding the NXT show or trying to get some extra eyes on a thin PPV? Bron’s gear tonight a replica of his father’s from Wrestlemania 9. Um, dunno if I want to evoke that show but okay. I think this is the best story they’ve been telling coming into the show and its continued in this match. Gacy has gotten a lot of offense in, reminding everyone how good a worker he really is. Yikes, Breakker hits a somersault plancha and Gacy did not make the catch. Nice varation on the Eddie chair spot with a second ref stopping the original ref from DQing Breakker. Then he murders Gacy with a spear off the apron and Joe lands hard on his head on the announce table. A well constructed match all around, great storytelling from both guys. If he was messing with any other champion, Gacy should have won the belt but I understand why they’re keeping the rocket firmly strapped to Breakker.

Final Grade: B+
Overall, a solid night for the tie dye brand with six matches that delivered. The rebranding has at least retained one thing from the Black and Gold era: delivering good to great big shows.
