NXT No Mercy Notes and a Show

Here’s a show reviewing a couple of shows. Under that are notes about one of those shows. I wrote them as I was watching a replay. I don’t edit. I’m already sorry about that.

  • Fucking love the N64 inspired open
  • HOLY SHIT MANTAUR… oh, no it’s Bron Breakker. Wait, why is he still not on the main roster?
  • Baron Corbin is now Ghost Rider? I thought he was a pirate… Did you ask Mark if you could use his American Badass entrance?
  • I get Bron is a big, big man, but you gotta at least try to catch him Baron.
  • Oh fuck the table didn’t break… you know that hurt so bad
  • Ah, I think I see why Breakker may still be down here. He’s had several strikes in this match that have been pretty bad actually. Not stiff or snug but the complete opposite and blatantly so.
  • Baron Corbin def. Bron Breakker @ 9:33 with the End of Days following interference from Mr. Stone.
    • Two big men having a big men brawl. A solid way to start the show with big moments. Big start, ebbed in the middle, came back up for the finish. A mat classic it was not, but a solid opener
  • Can’t figure out if Dragon Lee reffing here is a way to keep him in the title picture, or just giving him something to do until his full time call up, which again needs to happen, especially after that match on Raw with Dom.
  • Fucking love Trick’s entrance, especially with both the crowd and Booker T amping it up.
  • Those damn refs just keep getting in the way. Let’s hope we don’t use the ref bump again tonight.
  • Trick Williams def. Dominic Mysterio @ 9:28 with a flying knee to win the NXT North American title
    • Another great moment with Williams getting the opportunity he more than deserves. I get more and more impressed with him every time I see him in the ring. I don’t love the angle of the finish the camera caught because it looks like it missed by a mile and half, but the only complaint in an otherwise well done match.
  • I like the darker turn for Carrillo and Garza… but didn’t Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards do that gimmick/entrance like 15 years ago?
  • Julius also off the top with the tope and Carrillo and Garza showing Baron Corbin how to catch that move.
  • Alright, that four-way superplex spot was definitely the best moment of this match.
  • The Family retain the NXT Tag Titles @ 12:07 after D’Angelo pins Price following a Badda Boom Badda Bing
    • It was a four-way match and for the most part, it was there. The superplex spot was really cool but for the most part we’re talking a pretty formulaic contest.
  • In theory, I like the idea of a rounds match. It switches up the style of the in-ring experience and makes everything feel like more of a combat sport. But they are difficult to do right because the round breaks can mess with the flow of the match,
  • Great ending to round 1 with Dar hitting a Judas Effect after the bell to help connect the rounds.
  • Same for the 4th as Dar was pretty much out from a triangle.
  • Nice receipt at the end of the 5th from Butch with a stomp on the fingers after the bell.
  • Noam Dar retains the NXT Heritage Cup 2-1 in Round 6 @ 15:54
    • Good match but if we don’t have a British Strong Style reunion to take on Gallus after this it was so, so much interference for nothing.
    • I guess it allows this one to end for now and let both guys move to the next one.
  • I mean, the opening ten have been just a hard-hitting brawl. Dragonov got most of the offense in but this is being well built to allow Hayes to come back and show the challenger he can go blow for blow with him.
  • Jesus, those stomps to the head of Dragunov looked a little stiff.
  • Love the coast to coast callbacks to their Great American Bash match
  • Ilja Dravunov wins NXT Championship @ 21:04, pinning Carmello Hayes after a super H-Bomb
    • Another tremendous match between these two. Incredibly physical, incredibly brutal, something relatively simply constructed but done so well.
  • It does look pretty obvious that Stratton is not well experienced with working with weapons.
  • But props to her for rolling harder after getting her eyebrow opened up
  • Then we get back into the ring and Stratton makes me eat my words with some good looking shots with random plunder from the toolbox under the ring.
  • I dunno if taking a bump on a bunch of Barbie hurts as bad as a bump on a bunch of Legos but I like the symbolism there.
  • Great looking spinebuster through a trash can from Stratton
  • I know how this is going to sound when I say this, but I really wish WWE would never again try to use barbed wire. We know it’s not real and the barbed wire bat that Becky Lynch came out with was comically so. We know you’re not going to do it, so just don’t.
  • Then Stratton redeems it all with an awesome looking Sasuke special like back elbow through the barracde and a beautiful swanton from the top to the outside that you know had to suck because the table Becky was on only half broke and Stratton landed butt first on the floor.
  • Sweet jeebus these bumps Stratton is taking on the floor
  • Becky Lynch retains the NXT Women’s Championship @ 20:19 after pinning Tiffany Stratton following a Man Slam on multiple chairs
    • Goddamn what a main event. Tiffany Stratton put herself on a whole new level with her performance. Becky Lynch proved how damn good she is as well. That worker that can thrive in any environment she gets put in.
    • 5/5, would watch over and over again.
