One For Inoki-sama

AEW continues their annual tribute to the late New Japan founder Antonio Inoki as Wrestledream emanates live tonight from St. Louis. And Mike will try to continue his impressive 2025 as four title challengers are once again breathing down his neck. He’s a win behind Dan, Jerry and Zack from last weekend’s Crown Jewel, so all to play for tonight.

Once again, commentary brought to you by the one and only Zack:

DARK CARD:
Tag Team Whatever: FTR

The New York Chop Exchange Challenge: Eddie Hookston

More Tag Team Fun, Holy Shit Every Dark Match Is A Tag Match: Harley and Willow (and Hopefully the Puppet)

Yes, Virginia, There Is Another Tag Match: Death Riders, sorry free viewers, you’re going home sad

LIGHT CARD:
I Quit Match: Darby Allin

If we’re getting a rubber match out of the two of them – and trust me, I want this – then Mox needs to have a reason to think before he fucks with Lil Skateboard D. It’ll be what it always is with them, just curious how they can set up the finish to keep Mox looking strong if Allin does indeed go over.

Grudge Match: Jamie
How fuckin’ fun has the women’s division been lately? Thekla, Skye, Julia, Jamie, Aminata, Kris… the list goes on. That has nothing to do with the match, just wanted to point it out. As far as this match goes, I feel like Jamie has been getting some good traction for a push. Sadly she’s not as hot as she was before she got injured, but she’s getting back there slowly but surely. A win on Saturday will go a long way toward that eventual push.

Please Book All Of These Men Better Match: The Hurt Syndicate
I don’t care about this match. I didn’t care about this match the last 17 times we did it. The GoA are more at home in ROH – no offense to them at all, that’s just more the speed for them. Ricky is where he belongs in the midcard, but he should be a midcarder with purpose. Maybe make a run for the TNT title? Anything is better than being stuck in this dead end program. And don’t get me started about Bobby, Shelton and even MVP wasting their talents.

$500k Tag Match: Jurassic Express
I can see a universe in which Lucha turns on Jack… again… but if that happens, I can’t imagine it’ll be right off the rip. JE should get a big win or two, and probably have their day with the tag belts again. Problem is, you can’t have face vs. face for the gold… right?

AEW World Tag Team Championship: The DCF
Fantasy booking, I readily admit. Kazuchika and Konosuke kop the belts here, despite their squabbles. Drop them to JE at Full Gear, due to aforementioned squabbles. Said squabbles cause the two to squabble up at the Tokyo Dome in January. Thankfully it’s a Sunday, because I don’t foresee me sleeping that evening.

AEW TNT Championship: Mark Briscoe
A bit swervy, but I like it a lot. For one, it’s an even belt swap for the DCF (not exactly, since it’s 2-for-1, but just go with it, reader). For two, it puts over a homie that has done nothing but be a company man for the last 20+ years – a man with not many more years in the biz to go. And for three, it feels right for Mark to go over on a card that is about remembering one that we lost.

AEW Women’s World Championship: Kris
If Kris had pinned the aforementioned Jamie Hayter or Thekla at All out to win the belt in the first place, then I could see Toni going over here. But with Kris pinning the Timeless One, it makes less sense for her run to end here. I like Kris Stat to go over clean in a fun, show-stealing match, and to be greeted afterward by her next challenger: the returning Hikaru Shida.

AEW Men’s World Championship: Hangman
Two tough guys doing tough guys things. Adam’s second reign is about three months in, and a little under halfway to the length of his first. I don’t foresee it ending at this point, on this card, to this opponent. Max is one the one-week plan to redeem, so that’s off the table – unless they play it off somehow, which I don’t think they would. Darby and Mox are tied up, Swerve and Ospreay are out of pocket and/or injured, Copeland and Christian are old… the only other person that makes sense is one that has been rumored to return, and that should be inserted directly into the mix when he does. The #1 Asset. The Last Rock n’ Roller. The Man That Singlehandedly Sold Out MSG. The Real Belt Collector. None other than King Switch, baby.
