Trios Royale Roulette (really?) for the AEW World Trios Championship: Hangman and Brodido
The wild card team will probably involve Swerve in some way, but I’m not convinced that it’s FKA New Day. Instead, what if we get the MCMG instead? Swerve can say something like “the team you wanted to see was already booked up this weekend”. Hanger/Swerve books itself, as does a short program with MCMG and… Brodido? The Bang Bang Gang? The Dogs? Lots of options. The crowd will be let down, until…
AEW World Tag Team Championship: Kofi and Austin
Says it right there at the bottom of the Wiki page: “Card Subject to Change”. And what a swerve this would be (pun intended): everyone deflates a bit during the pre-show, and are immediately paid off when word comes out that TK has made this a six-way dance for the straps! Christian takes the pin after a Trouble In Paradise, and we’re off to the races.
Men’s Casino Gauntlet Match: Adam Cole (Bay-Bay)
We’re in for a penny, in for a pound, from the land where the term originated. The last scheduled match that Cole had was at last year’s All-In… what better time to reintroduce the homie? Granted, I have no idea how his health is, and that should always be the #1 priority (which goes without saying). But if he’s healthy enough to go, then how better to come back then some relatively light work? No bumps, quick pin after a Panama Sunrise, and… I don’t know what happens after that, but I’m here for it.
AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship: The Brawling Birds
I love how well Divine Dominion have been booked, and they’ve looked every bit of the monster heels that they’re advertised to be. I don’t think the program should end here – and I don’t think it will – but the Dominion need to be knocked down a couple pegs.
Continental Challenge Cup Final: Nigel McGuinness
After putting the TBS Title on Maya World (who, let me be clear, deserves every stitch of that belt), it would not at all surprise me to see the bookers go with the emotional, feel-good pick. And I don’t hate it! The man is good enough to be Kane for a night, he’s certainly good enough to dethrone Jon. Either way, I think the boots get left in the ring afterward.
Three-Way Match for the AEW International Championship: Kazuchika Okada
This has the potential to be the match of the night. I feel like we will get the best that Takeshita and Fletcher have, and that we’ll get vintage Okada on top of that. The sort of three-way spot where one wrestler hits a finisher on another one, and then the third one swoops in to steal the pin? I see that being the finish here. Easy setup for the 1-on-1 “rematch” with Fletcher down the line.
AEW Women’s World Championship: Willow Nightingale
Another match that could easily be match of the night. The build has been fantastic, and these two will work so well together in-ring as well. It could go either way, but I like the champ to retain here. Pinfall, celebration, vamping, lights go down… come up to Kairi in the ring, staring Willow down! We’re already in all-timer territory, and we still have two more matches to go.
Falls Count Anywhere Match for the AEW TNT Championship: Kevin Knight
There will definitely be overbooking of the Callis variety here, and Darby will even the odds with the help of the Conglomeration. Should be chaos, Anarchy in the Arena-levels of fighting in the concourse, outside, all over Wembley. All that should be missing is Drowning Pool’s Bodies. But Kevin Knight is ever the opportunist, and he will capitalize in the end.
AEW World Championship: Will Ospreay
If I were checking odds and not doing this on vibes alone, I would expect this to be one of the meatier favorites on the card. And for good reason! The boy from the Borough of Havering, who started doing backyard wrestling with childhood pal Kip Sabian after watching Samoa Joe vs. AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels back in 2005… the man who faded a herniated disc in his C2 and C6 spine to return to in-ring in just over half a year… and the local hero who will become the first English wrestler to win the AEW World Championship. No need for lights out after this one: confetti, cellys, end broadcast.
